Forth Falls
The Forth Falls consists of 5 falls with the walking track being accessible to 2 of them. Original there were 7 falls and with the damming of Lake Barrington in 1969 one and half falls are now under the water. Access to the Forth Falls is from the property of Escape To. The track leads to the Forth Falls State Reserve to join up with an old fisherman's track now maintained by the Parks and Wildlife Service. The track is suitable for most walkers but does require sturdy footwear. A very short section can be damp during winter, but in summer it is dry all the way.
Cradle Country
Wilmot, Valley of Views, offers the best panoramic outlooks over Cradle Country. Read more...
Wilmot, traditionally used for dairying and growing potatoes, lies west of Lake Barrington. Originally, Wilmot supplied all the seed potatoes used in southern Australia. Visitors can enjoy the stunning hinterland scenery and the quirky Novelty Letterbox Trail. Wilmot is home to the early G.J.Coles family general store, now named the Wilmot Country Store (open 7 days a week). The family of Mr George Coles (father of the founder of Coles variety chain stores) operated this general store in the same building that exists today. So, stop into the Wilmot general store to fill up with petrol, mail your postcards and gather supplies before you head off to Cradle Mountain. Wilmot Hills Winery, Tasmania's highest altitude vineyard, produces award winning wines and spirits. View Wilmot history at Wilmot Museum.
Sheffield, Town of Murals, is nestled in Cradle Country's rural heartland.Read more...
Sheffield lies aproximately 35 minutes from where the Spirit of Tasmania arrives at Devonport. Visitors are simply captivated by more than 50 murals in this quaint country town. Take the "Story of the Sheffield Murals" self-guided audio tour (available for hire from the Kentish Visitor Information Centre) and immerse yourself in the story of how a typical Tasmanian town facing rural decline succeeded in becoming a wonderful outdoor art gallery! Fertile farmlands of Kentish Plains dominate the scenery, with Mt Roland towering the southern skyline at 1233m above sea level. Is it any wonder pioneering settlers named their townships Paradise, No Where Else and Promised Land?
Railton is a short drive from Devonport via Latrobe, and is a part of Tasmania's "Outdoor Art Gallery".
The iconic Cradle Mountain and the beautiful Dove Lake are easily accessed at the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park
Come to the edge of Leven Canyon, a 250 m ravine that's part of a wildlife corridor from the coast to Cradle Mountain. The views from the lookout above the canyon are inspiring.
