Things To Do

The region is bounded by the rugged Brokenback Range, State Forests, National Parks & the Hunter River. There are many walking trails, great picnic spots & lookouts. The area is rich in convict history, coal & Aboriginal heritage. The region offers a lot more than just our fantastic wineries.

Cessnock and Pokolbin Region
Well known for its wineries, ranging from intimate boutique to larger historic established wineries, restaurants (with all the flavours of the world), cafes, antiques, world class golf courses, hot air ballooning, skydiving, wine & food appreciation courses and of course the breathtaking scenery. Special events (Day on the Green/Jazz in the Vines to name a few) and world class concert events are held on a regular basis. Enjoy the Hunter Valley Gardens, just a 5km drive through the vineyards and well worth a visit.

Wollombi
Just a short drive south of Cessnock and established in the 1830s by convict labour is the historic village of Wollombi. Featuring antique shops, museums, cafes, art & craft galleries, the historic tavern often has entertainment on weekends and is home of the infamous "Jurd's Jungle Juice". On the Mondays of long weekends the village hosts a "Market Day" supporting local community groups.

Morpeth
Approximately 40 minutes NE of Cessnock, Morpeth is an historic port, steeped in history and a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike. Enjoy a stroll through art & craft galleries or relax and delight in a meal at one of its many restaurants or cafes.

Newcastle Foreshore
Where the Hunter meets the sea. Plenty to see and do, once the hub of Australia's steel making industry, but now has been transformed into a truly beautiful city. Stroll along the waterfront or one of its many beaches, go shopping, visit the art gallery, soak up the atmosphere of the foreshore whilst enjoying a meal in one of the restaurants or make new friends in the fashionable Waterside Tavern.

Singleton/Upper Hunter
Approximately 1 hour NW of Cessnock, travelling via Broke past more vineyards and through the foothills of the majestic Brokenback Ranges, you arrive in Singleton, home of massive open cut coal mines and monstrous machinery, rich dairy & cattle country. Visit a working farm or see Aboriginal rock painting. Singleton is home of the Army Museum. Just to the north of Singleton is Lake St. Clair, a fisherman's paradise.

Nelson Bay
Approximately 1 1/2 hours NE of Cessnock is Nelson Bay/Tea Gardens/Hawk's Nest, beautiful fine golden sands, glistening crystal blue water. A fisherman's paradise and the freshest of seafood awaits you. Join regular dolphin and whale watching cruises (in season).
