Richmond Barracks - Richmond Accommodation

Relax and enjoy the spacious sun filled gardens that surround these beautifully restored cottages. The Colonial officers who originally lived in the Barracks certainly did not enjoy the superb comforts you'll find here today. Built in 1830, using local convict bricks, this charming National Trust Registered property is a restful haven for the deserving traveller.

Choose between any of these three elegantly restored units:

* Lady Esther Cottage: two storey, self contained family accommodation, sleeps four comfortably.
* The Retreat: bedroom, lounge, kitchenette, bathroom, sleeps two/three comfortably.
* The Cellar: studio with kitchenette and bathroom sleeps two only.

You'll be comfortable and warm with electric blankets and heat pumps for the cooler nights, with air conditioning for the warmer nights, these are fitted in all cottages. A hearty continental breakfast basket is provided and delivered to your cottage.

The Barracks is equipped with wireless internet access for guests, the procedure for connection is available at reception.

This service is free of charge for guests staying at The Barracks.

Nearby Amenities

As Tasmania's most important historic town, Richmond is one of the state's most popular destinations, where the townfolk enjoy welcoming visitors and sharing its beautiful charms - its fresh food and fine wines, grown in fertile soils under the world's cleanest air; its unique art & craftwork, in fragrant wood, delicately glazed clay, or hand woven fibres; good examples of Tasmania's stark convict heritage and beautiful historic buildings. The town is as elegant today as it was in the 1820's when it was an important military staging post and convict station linking Hobart with Port Arthur.

Nestled in the Coal River Valley, this classified historic town is famous for its Georgian architecture. It contains Australia's oldest freestone road bridge, the oldest Roman Catholic Church and the best preserved convict gaol. The stone buildings now house galleries, teashops, craft boutiques and museum
