Tubby and Padmans is a Georgian bed and breakfast in the heart of Swansea on Tasmania’s East Coast. The property boasts panoramic views across the Oyster Bay to the Freycinet Peninsula. The name originates from the first owners, George Padman and Mrs Uttiungton- Tubby his mother in law. The family sailed from Britain. The cottage was built circa 1840 as a two-storey department store. It has been well documented that the top storey of the building was removed and placed somewhere in the structure of the Oyster Bay Inn, after being damaged in a storm.
Situation provides a good base on the East coast of Tasmania to visit Launceston Hobart and the Midlands and still enjoy the tranquillity of a historic country town.Tubbies is in walking distance to shops cafes resuarants, 5 mins to beach walks and swimming. 40 klms by car to the Freycinet National Park.
All suites and apartments are self-contained, private and haveCD's TV DVD. Willow has cable TV, all have hairdryers and access to a laundry and clotheslines and a dryer. BBQ facilities are available.
Tubby and Padman is AAA 4 star, accredited by the Tourism Council of Tasmania.
As history proceeds, the house has been owned both privately and for commercial ventures. One of the most well known ventures to the locals of Swansea was its time as a nursing home, ‘The Swansea Cottage Nursing Home. Many of the locals recall time spent with loved ones. in and The Swansea Cottage Nursing Home ceased to operate in the 1980s when the May Shaw Nursing Center was built.
From nursing home, to back packers and then to private ownership. Now proudly owned by Greg and Sue Lodge, Tubby and Padmans lives again as self-contained bed and breakfast suites and apartments.
Local attractions within walking distance are: restaurants and cafes. Surrounding areas offer kayaking, abseiling, hiking, vineyards, scenic plane trips, beach walks and swimming.

Things to Do
Swansea is situated on the East Coast of Tasmania 1 ½ hours from Hobart and Launceston. A quiet historic village ideal to relax by the water, walk on the beach, read a book or if you wish go sightseeing.
Tubby’s is within walking distance of cafes, restaurants, galleries museums, and gift shops, a nine-hole golf course.
Local attractions
· Kate’s Berry Farm, spectacular views, ice creams berries in season, berry wines and Devonshire teas.
· The Bark Mill – Tasmanian Wine, wool and wattle bark museum and now Swansea’s Tavern.
· Gallery One Nine – gifts, souvenirs, imported Asian wares.
Your can travel south to Spiky Bridge built by the convicts.
Travel to Triabunna catch the ferry to Maria Island and see the penal settlement, birds and sea life.
Traveling north 10kms turn into the Lake Leake road visit waterfalls or have a meal at the Lake Leake Tavern!
Travel to the Heritage Highway to Campbell Town, Ross and Oatlands. See historic sandstone villages, historic buildings and bridges, antique shops, restaurants and cafes.
Travel north of Tubby & Padmans 25 mins to the Coles Bay turnoff on your way visiting numerous walnut farms and wineries. Once at the coles bay turnoff travel 20mins to the Freycinet National Park. Partake of walks into Wineglass Bay, visit the Lodge, take a sea charter and spot the dolphins. Walk into Friendly Beaches or visit Honeymoon Bay. For the more adventurous canoeing, abseiling, sea kayaking, four wheel driving or ride a quad bike on the beach – your Freycinet Escape.
Continue up the coast to Bicheno to view the blow hole or take a dusk tour of the fairy penguins and the list goes on.
