The town has a lot on offer with cafes, restaurants and clubs featuring menus with a broad range of choices and boutique shops. A wide variety of fresh and cooked seafood is available and the local oysters are delicious.

The mighty humpback is the most commonly seen, and is often seen feeding and breaching on their return trip to the Antarctic. Up to 8 species of whales including right whales, the rare blue whales and killer whales (orcas) can be seen off the coast of Merimbula. During a cruise you will also see a wide range of birdlife including the albatross, shearwaters and mutton birds and sightings of turtles, seals, dolphin and fairy penguins are common.
